Hometown Survival Seed Package

A wonderful surprise was brought to my door by the mailman today.  Hometown Seeds sent me their 100% non- hybrid Survival Seed collection to try out and review.  I am very excited!  I have wanted a survival package of seed for long term storage and have been wondering what a selection would look like and what would be included.

The Hometown Seed box arrived carefully packaged.  The seeds are neatly enclosed in a mylar bag, smaller than a box of cereal and is labeled clearly with storage condition advice.  If the package is unopened and stored in a cool place, the colder the better, the seeds will be viable for 5 years. If the package is unopened and stored in a freezer the seed could be viable in up to 10 years. That is incredible and a must have for all long term storage plans.

The well balanced and carefully chosen selection includes Golden Bantam Sweet Corn, Lincoln Peas, Champion Radish, Utah Yellow Sweet Spanish Onion, Detroit Dark Red Beet, Rutgers Tomato, Bloomsdale Longstanding Spinach, Golden Acre Cabbage, Lucullus Swiss Chard, Romaine Paris Island Cos Lettuce, Scarlet Nantes Carrot, Yolo Wonder Pepper, Waltham Butternut Winter Squash, Long Green Cucumber, Kentucky Wonder Pole Beans and Black Beauty Zucchini seeds.  The selection will plant a ¾ acre garden site and were chosen as easy growers with good production in most growing regions.  All seeds are 100% GMO free.

Also included in the package was a detailed printed narration on each seed type including planting instructions, care, harvesting, nutritional value and collecting seed instructions.  If one was to follow the instructions they would be able to not only feed their family but be able to do it again the following year.  We are all learning alarming facts about the large seed companies, use of fertilizers and pesticides that will eventually leave us with food that is toxic and not nutritional.  What will we do then if we do not learn gardening skills now and save non-hybrid seed?  If you have not put away a survival seed cache it is time to do it now.  This package from Hometown Seeds is on sale for only $34.99 which is 33% off the suggested retail price of $50.  Very affordable and reasonable that every wise and prudent family should have!

I heartily endorse use of this small Utah based company’s Survival Seed collection.  The staff has been very friendly and helpful and all my questions were answered expertly and efficiently.  The Hometown Seed collection is excellent.  My hardest decision is going to be do I save this package or do I plant the seeds this year?  As an experienced gardener it is going to be very difficult to hold on to such magical little miracles of nature.  I will probably plant and save seed for next year!

I will report back in when I germinate I will report back in when I germinate and begin early planting in my handmade cloches.

Thank you Home Town Seeds!  Now go to their website at http://www.hometownseeds.com/ and make your order!  Home Town Seeds offers a wide variety of annual, perennial, wildflower, herb, vegetable and survival seeds.  I think they are a wonderful company and now a days I would prefer to deal with smaller companies that put their effort into their gardens and seeds rather than producing flashy catalogs.
